Cambodia is Proposing to Add Khmer Noodles to the World Heritage List

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia is applying for the inscription of 14 cultural properties on the UNESCO World Heritage List, including Khmer noodles.

At the opening ceremony of the meeting to summarize the work results of 2021 and the work direction of 2022 of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts held on Wednesday at the Chaktomuk Conference Hall, the Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, Pheung Sakona, stated that 14 cultural assets (Banteay Chhmar, Angkor Borei, Phnom Da, Kulen, Beng Mealea, Preah Khan Kompong Svay, Odong, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, Choeung Ek Genocide Center, M-13 former detention center, Royal Water Festival, Koh Ker, Bokator, Battambang city and Khmer noodles) had been submitted for inscription on the World Heritage List, the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

The application for inscription on the World Heritage List is one of the five-year achievements of the Royal Government of Cambodia, as stated on the the sixth legislature of the Ministry of Culture in the past.

Khmer Noodles are popularly eaten by Cambodians for breakfast or as an afternoon snack. These noodles are similar to Chinese hand-pulled noodles.
